Good choice for home office
This printer is quiet, fast and a good value. Easy to use after completing a non-intuitive installation, for which the on-line user manual might better be called useless, although a call to customer service solved the connectivity problem. Print density is easily adjusted from Home Screen but cannot be made as dark as one might like. Paper jams are infrequent and manageable, unlike the Brother ink jet printer this Canon replaced.

Update: It’s been over a month and everything is still working great. I’ve used the unit a few times for printing, scanning, and copying stuff since and it’s all good, even double sided prints are great. We had a power outage too and it did not affect the printer any.It’s been a week since I received this item so I wanted to take the time to review it because I’ve been living with an HP inkjet printer/copier/scanner combo for the past decade and in the recent years, I find that I am using it less and less, but there’s always some need for it once every couple of months or so and I’ll find that the ink has always gone dry and so I end up buying new ink for it every time I need to use the printer.Frustrated with that, I started searching for a good laser printer/copier/scanner combo for the past few months, but everyone just recommends Brother and their cheapest combo model runs twice the price of this printer and nearly 3x the price of my inkjet. After further research, I found that some people run into an issue with laser printer using a lot of power and potentially setting off the breaker. This unit in comparison appears to run with less power (for a laser printer) and I’m happy to report that I haven’t had any issues with it tripping the breaker or any issues with it waking up instantly from sleep mode when I need to print off the network.First, I did check the reviews here and note some people having issues with the wi-fi, so I skipped all that and got myself an ethernet cable along with the printer. I set up the printer near the router and just plugged my printer directly to it via the ethernet cable. Then, I went to their website and downloaded the recommended driver. Run it and it should scan and detect your printer. If it doesn’t, make sure your printer is on and is plugged in to router. Additionally, someone here said to use a static IP so I set that up on my router as well for this printer, even though the driver installation had no issues finding the printer even without that step, but I figure if I can skip a possible issue down the line, why not?The last thing you need to know is that after installing the driver on any PCs you want to connect it to, you will want to run or look in the system tray for Canon MF Network Scanner Selector and make sure it is checked ok and running in the system tray. This will allow the machine to detect your PC and you can scan directly to any PC where you have this set up. Otherwise you will need to trigger the scan from the PC which is less convenient if the PC is not next to the printer.The whole setup took less than 10 minutes, I’m not sure why so many people had issues or claim that the setup is super complicated when it is no more complicated than any other printer on the market. Most of the time was spent on removing the tape from the machine itself and plugging it in. Just make sure you follow the directions to remove the orange plastic pieces on the toner.After setting it up, I tested printing from a PC, copying an ID card directly on the machine without any PC involved (great feature by the way, you can print both sides of the ID on one page). I also tested scanning the ID card to my PC and it worked with no issues. The print/copy also came out great without any special tweaking on the printer itself. The machine has a lot of options, but you can leave most of it on default and it does the job fine. Then, I let it sleep and tried printing on another machine the following day to see if it is able to wake up ok after sleeping overnight and I found that it printed almost instantly, taking almost no time to wake up. I tested again a week later (today), and printed 14 pages double-sided and it perfectly printed both sides to 7 pieces of paper perfectly without any extra intervention from me.I also really appreciate the understated features such as being able to tilt the panel to make it easier to see if you are taller like me and the cleverly designed multi-piece cover that covers the entirety of the paper tray so that the paper won’t catch any dust sitting there for months. Also, the scanner top also allows you to pull up a bit to scan thicker objects like a textbook for example without leaving the top up.I’m really happy with the purchase so far and I’m so glad that I found this laser printer combo for this price. I will be sure to update if my experience changes

It is not an ink jet printer
First let me say the printer is as described and came packed securely and undamaged. Second, set up was easy and fast for me as I don’t use the WiFi network to use it I use a direct USB connection to my PC. I followed the instructions to the word carefully and loaded the CD into my W7SP1 OS and the printer was immediately recognized and ready for action upon plugging in and turning on. Third, for me the process of getting to printing was way to long. I had to go online to view the manual and open 3 tabs to get to my printer only to find that the operating instructions were almost like IKEA! Lots of pictures without much help where it was needed. After many attempts to self help myself to get the print darker and figure all of the other stuff out I decided to go to an online help forum. I then went to YouTube and those two things got me where I needed to be, and unfortunately Canon is lacking with fine tuning instructions as far as this printer is concerned. I haven’t had to use tech support, I haven’t scanned anything yet either and that is next on my list but the two sided printing is awesome, printing invoices from emails and online shopping works great and now that I found out how to adjust the print quality all of the prints have come out perfect.It holds a ton of paper, I don’t have to purchase ink jet refills any longer, it is quiet and haven’t had any trouble with the stand by mode at all as I shut it off every night and turn back on in the morning without incident. So, I have to thank my wife for finding this printer for us and I will update as time progresses and let y’all know how it goes but for now I highly recommend this printer.

Totally worth it!!
It’s extremely great buy. We were so tired of ink jet problems and cartridge expense. In last two years, I had replaced ink jet cartridge thrice and that too when I was printing average 20 to 30 pages in a month. This Canon was the very best (price and features including new toner cartridges) in the selection of all Laser multipurpose black and white laser printers we researched. The set up of the printer was quite easy and was done in about 25 minutes, that’s un-boxing to running to the first test print. We set it up with Wi-Fi option as no cable was provided. It has a really compact footprint and fit nicely on my office table. I have been printing a few weeks now, no problems, no adjustments or changes were necessary, software out of the box and set up from instructions pretty straight forward. Great Value, especially if you don’t need color for everything you print. Scanned our ID and copied certificates perfectly. Super-fast and quiet too!!

Constant Issues
Well it started off bad as I could not connect via wi-fi. I have worked with computer and used to troubleshoot computer and network issues so I am not unfamilair but it just failed to connect. Then it kept getting paper jams which I was able to resolve and now I made a copy with the printer and it seems stuck in copy mode, when I print it just says copying and prints blank paper and then it keeps directing me to press start. The tools are not all that intuitive. I bought this instead to replace a Brother Printer because I had constant issues getting the wi-fi to work with that after about a year and it finally just stopped working all together after 5 years but Brother was very easy to set up, great intuitive tools and the only issue I had was the wi-fi connection. I am going to junk this printer and go back to Brother.

I chose this machine because I had a Canon before and I loved it.I tried the ink, but I hate ink. It’s just too expensive and messy. I love the toner.I still have to figure out how to shut off the 2 sided printing, but I’m loving it.

It does not have the autofeed/stack feeder for printing/scanning.
